Alaska with its many waterways, bays and waterfalls offers a lot to the sailor.  Every year, boats set out to make their long journey from big cities including Seattle, California, Oregon and Vancouver to make their "pilgrimage" to Alaska.  Here are some of what the sailors have to say:

"Skookumchuk 53" Motorsailer
Ted and Cindy (Mattson)
Winter 2005

Cruising Alaska in the winter time is not for everybody.  For Ted Mattson who works in commercial fishing and charter, summer time is his busy season, and the only time left for cruising is in the winter.  He cruised  Alaska with his partner Cindy on board a 53 foot motorsailer named "Skookumchuk".  The cruise started early November and finished by Christmas time.

Alaska Cruise on the "Kittiwake"              Charlotte Blytmann wrote about her
cruise to Alaska on her website at  www.blytmann.com/alaska1.htm; there is a total of five chapters taking you on her journey from Port Hardy to Alaska.  Her husband Tage took the boat from their home port Sequim, Washington, while Charlotte took the ferry and met her husband in Port Hardy.   They took two months (July and August) exploring the Alaska waters together.
