Turkey- where the East meets the West

Turkey is home to Istanbul, once called Constantinople.  It s a country that sits on two continent, Europe and Asia.  It is both Eastern and European, the meeting place of the East and West.

Surrounded by seas on 3 sides, Black Sea to the North, Aegean Sea to the West and Mediterranean Sea to the South, in addition to the Sea of Mamara in the Northwest inside Turkey- all these make Turkey a popular sailing destination.

Geographically, it has Russia to the North, Central Asia to the East, European Union to the West and the Middle East to the South.

Sailing in Turkey is very smooth because there is no open sea, and no tides or currents to contend with.  The sailing season starts from April and ends in October.  July and August tends to get very hot.

An ancient country, Turkey has a lot to offer to History enthusiasts.  This is the land where you will find archaeological sites of Troy, Ephesus, trace the sea passage route of Cleopatra on her way up the Turkish coast to Greek Samos,  or Alexander's path down the coast of Turkey from Ephesus to Phaselis.

You can explore secluded beaches, swim in the turquoise waters, or go explore ancient amphitheatres, rock tombs, sunken villages, archaeological ruins.......

The Spirit 54 sailboat used in the James Bond 007 movie Casino Royale is now based in a yacht charter company in Marmaris, Turkey.  The charter rate is around US$ 5700 a week.
